Samsung Galaxy S23: release date, price, specs and latest news

When the Samsung Galaxy S23 launches what is anticipated to be a busy year for Samsung phones, it will have some large shoes to fill. And it’ll show up sooner than you anticipate.
Samsung has chosen a date for its upcoming Unpacked event (February 1), and although there has been no official word on what items will be unveiled there, the Galaxy S23 seems like a plausible candidate.
In February, what kind of phone will appear there? And will there be a noticeable improvement over earlier models? The Galaxy S22 and Galaxy S22 Plus, among the most recent revisions to the Galaxy S range, felt far more iterative than innovative, while the Galaxy S22 Ultra had no such issue, revitalizing the Galaxy Note.
As you might anticipate, the Galaxy S23 rumor mill is currently in full force. Therefore, we wanted to discuss what is already available as well as what we hope to see from next smartphones. Before the Galaxy S23 ships in February, here is what you need to know.
1. Samsung Galaxy S23 possible release date and price
Put an end to rumors about the Galaxy S23’s release date. Samsung has announced a Galaxy Unpacked event on February 1, effectively making it official. It will take place in San Francisco and start at 10 a.m. PT, which is 1 p.m. ET and 6 p.m. GMT.
The Galaxy S23 is not mentioned in that invitation, but there is at least one allusion to new Samsung phones. The way the spotlights are set up makes me think of the Galaxy camera array.
Furthermore, Samsung will “launch two smartphones that establish the new premium bar for innovation” during Unpacked, according to TM Roh, president and CEO of Samsung Mobility. Based on what else we anticipate seeing at Galaxy Unpacked, at least one of those is likely to be the Galaxy S23 Ultra, while the other is probably a Galaxy Book 3 Ultra.
Samsung is allowing you to pre-order anything that is revealed at Galaxy Unpacked (opens in new tab). You can receive a $50 discount if you pre-order one device before February 1 and a $100 credit if you pre-order two.
The Galaxy S23’s precise shipping date is still unknown. Considering that Samsung typically releases new smartphones to store shelves just over two weeks after they are announced, the approximate shipment date for the Galaxy S9 is around February 17.
Regarding the cost, one leaker claims in a tweet(opens in new tab) that the Galaxy S23 will run you 1,199,000 won in South Korea, or around $933 in the United States. Additionally, it would represent a 20% increase from the Galaxy S22’s launch price of 999,000 won the previous year.
For the Galaxy S23 Plus and Galaxy S23 Ultra, the leak predicts additional price increases of 1,397,000 won ($1,096) and 1,599,400 won ($1,253), respectively. If accurate, this would result in a 10–20% price increase over the previous year, depending on the model.
The cost for the Galaxy S23 and S23 Plus isn’t expected to alter from that of the Galaxy S22 and S22 Plus, according to another leak that lists the prices in USD. On the other side, the price of the Galaxy S23 Ultra can increase slightly.
However, according to 9to5Google, the Galaxy S23 series will cost $100 more in Australia than it does in the United States and the United Kingdom. So, we are unsure of what to anticipate.
2. Samsung Galaxy S23 design and display
The Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra in particular bears a striking resemblance to the Galaxy S22 in terms of appearance. The Galaxy S23 lineup appears to be mostly committed to maintaining this aesthetic.
According to a tip from leaker Ice Universe, the Galaxy S23 Ultra model will be somewhat larger than the Galaxy S22 Ultra at 6.43 x 3.07 x 0.35 inches. All of this is true despite rumors of a new camera, which some have hypothesized could lead to a thicker overall phone and a larger camera module.
Are you curious as to what these rumors might imply for the S23 Ultra’s final design? Though Ice Universe(opens in new tab) has commented that there may be some differences between these renders and the final product, including more prominent metal rings around the cameras, thicker bezels, and a flatter display and sides, leaked Galaxy S23 Ultra renders showcase the potential design for the upcoming flagship.
According to a case comparison, the Galaxy S23 Ultra will have larger camera lenses and smaller power/volume side buttons than the S22 Ultra.
Since then, two sets of photos of potential dummy units for every model have been leaked. Even while the leaked cases we’ve seen may have been designed using CAD pictures, those cases may still be substantially accurate because case manufacturers only want to produce units based on designs they are confident will be accurate.
Expect minimal design changes between the S23 and S23 Plus and their S22 equivalents if these dummy units are correct. However, that does not mean there won’t be any adjustments. According to these rumors, the Samsung Galaxy S23 and Galaxy S23 Plus no longer have the back Contour Cut camera housing of their predecessors and are instead configured as independent lenses.
3. Galaxy S23 colors
The Galaxy S23 base model is depicted in Quandt’s leaked renderings, which feature the device in Mystic Lilac, Cotton Flower (a gold/white colorway), Botanic Green, and Phantom Black. Meanwhile, Ice Universe’s “actual” renders are for the pricey Galaxy S23 Ultra. The colors in these S23 Ultra images match those of the renders that Quandt previously leaked, despite the lack of official marketing titles.
Beige, black, green, and light pink, according to an earlier rumor, will be offered on all three S23 family devices. Furthermore, a S Pen color leak hinted that these would be the S23 Ultra’s color possibilities. The hypothesis that the colors will be (basically) beige, black, green, and light pink is largely supported by these most recent renders as well as by the rumors mentioned above.
Samsung’s’signature colors,’ which will be used to sell the Galaxy S23 smartphones, have been revealed. According to rumors, these will be green for the S23 Ultra, pink for the S23 Plus, and gold for the S23. Unless that is a reference to the beige color, which it could ultimately be, we have yet to see any proof of a gold colorway.

4. Samsung Galaxy S23 cameras
The 200MP camera on the Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra, which would be a significant improvement above the 108MP camera on the Galaxy S22 Ultra, has been the subject of several speculations.
Recent promotional videos that have leaked appear to confirm that this upgrade is coming. In the first promotional film, the new camera promises “amazing night images,” while in the second, it promises “wow-worthy quality.” Although these promotional movies are intended to promote the S23 Ultra, it’s possible that they also suggest future improvements for the S23 lineup as a whole.
Another rumor claims that this improved camera would include many advancements over the 108MP and 200MP cameras it now sells, including a new ISOCELL HP2 sensor, which Samsung just revealed.
If you’re curious about the capabilities of this sensor, Samsung has demonstrated one in a movie by taking a photo of a cat and then enlarging it to fit a 28 × 22-meter canvas that was hanging off the side of a building. The visual was amazing, though it’s difficult to tell for sure via a YouTube video and not in person. Individual cat hairs may be clearly seen, and the details appear to be incredibly sharp.
