A good analogy someone else gave is that turning your steering wheel hard while driving a car can be deadly if you crash. But it shouldn't cause your steering wheel to fall off!! Poor design by Airbus, and poor communication between Airbus and American Airlines.
Obviously there is some blame for multiple parties, but Airbus is the most at fault IMHO. They knew their plane better than anyone yet did not specify this danger in their manual! I wish I could find out more about the supposed warning they gave to American Airlines before – the Wikipedia article doesn't mention it – but even still…it also was not a good design: "Most aircraft require increased pressure on the rudder pedals to achieve the same amount of rudder control at a higher speed. The Airbus A300 and later Airbus A310 models do not operate on a fly-by-wire flight control system, but instead use conventional mechanical flight controls." And on another note, although flying is statistically the safest way to travel and airplanes remain a marvel of engineering, when it comes to in flight life and death emergencies airplanes are poorly designed. The lives of hundreds are usually in the hands of two to three people who at the moment of confusion or powerlessness have no life saving options but to accept death
The airline industry needs a complete overhaul in how airplanes are designed. And I’m familiar with the major challenges of weight, elevation, air density, pressure, weather, speeds etc which is why parachutes, airbags, ejection etc won’t work but even so we need a new kind of airplane, one where death and destruction is minimized to near zero
And I want Elon Musk to design it
I believe it was the wake turbulence, and blaming this & that & even the pilot appears a way of avoiding responsibility for having the plane follow into the wake vortices of the Japanese flight, ahead. With the defective lugs on the tail fin, surely – that wake was sufficient to rip that tail fin right off.
The last thing a human loses is hope! Sad but true. RIP to all of these people.

Is there no 'method' to know that the air-turbulence from the 'earlier aircraft' (that left minutes ago) has 'normalized' and the next take-off to be cleared only 'thereafter'? Why leave it to the 'judgement' of the next pilot?

clearly airbus needs to update the a300s so that the rudder needs to be pressed more at higher speeds and at slower speeds it needs to be pressed less
Wait a minute: The Rudder sensitivity settings are negligent per se. Why increase sensitivity with speed, DECREASE it. Just a lawyer and a motorcycle rider who kinda somewhat understands that less is more at high speed…….

Why the hell are we blaming the pilots? I use the rudder because that's what it's there for? No one ever told me 'Don't touch that or it'll snap right off…'

No information on checking all the other planes that have used this procedure for cracks and other damage which make me wonder if there are planes still running with hidden damage to this very day.
